Combined Billy & Frank have been entertaining folks professionally for over 58 years! Billy played in blues bands in Chicago & Kalamazoo & Frank played in a Honkey Tonk-Bluegrass band called The Harvestmen (2 CD’s) and a Reggae-Ska band called Frank-o & The Americans (1 CD), both writing and playing original music.

They came together at Zac’s Open Mic @ The Workshop back in March of ’23 and started playing as Billy & The Kid in the summer of ’23. They play things that are tricky and fun to play (for us, cuz if it blows our minds, we know everyone else should enjoy it as well) but also things that interplay well between the Mando & Guitar voicing. Maybe an acoustic jam grass blues w/some bluegrass and jazz-folk influence (and sometimes Reggae). Their material lies within Jerry Garcia & David Grisman, Doc Watson, Billy Strings, Grateful Dead & Trampled by Turtles to name a few. They also write their own material and play those along with some ripping Blues and their takes on tunes that you may never hear the way they have arranged them, and the way they play & sing them!

Daydrinker’s Series-Jim Hawley

Daydrinker’s Series-Jim Hawley

Jun 8, 3:00pm

6535 First St, Lake Ann, MI Map

When people hear Jim Hawley sing, it’s immediately obvious that he’s been doing this for awhile. When he closes his eyes and begins to sing, he reaches down and from somewhere deep in his heart, he pulls you in – the feeling is almost physical and you know that he has lived through the joy and the pain of love’s prism. His voice conveys emotion that stirs the soul.

Jim was born in California, but from his earliest memories, he never lived in one place for very long. As vagabond of sorts, he drew and learned from the people he met and the experiences he had along the way, which later would contribute to the poignancy of his song writing.

His music took root while in high school, playing the coffee houses in and around the Miami, Florida area. After high school, Jim served a four year tour of duty in the United States Navy. His first 2 years in service took him to Oahu, Hawaii, where he met Don Ho and was invited as a regular guest performer on his show at the Polynesian Palace in Waikiki. His days belonged to the Navy, but at night Jim performed regularly in many clubs on the island.

When his service ended he went back to Southern California. While attending Mesa College to obtain a degree in Music Theory, Jim performed at all the popular venues and literally became a household name in the San Diego area. He performed at Sea World and was also a regular favorite on the Terry Cole Whitaker television show. In the Los Angeles area, Jim also showcased in some famous venues such as the Improvisation (where he met and received high praise from Robin Williams and Lou Rawls), The Ice House, The Troubador and the Bla Bla Café.

Because of his high school roots, Jim went back to Miami frequently and built an impressive following in that region as well. While there and performing regularly in clubs, he was also fortunate enough to land some commercial work.

He sang and read copy for an entire season for the Jordan Marsh back to school campaign; sang lead vocals for radio commercials for Delta Airlines, Big Brothers of America and Omni International Hotels.

He was also a favorite of radio station LOVE 94 FM and for two summers was asked to perform for their LOVE ON THE BEACH concert series which included such artists as Pat Matheny and Gene Cotton.
When performing in Miami one night, Jim realized that he had some very famous people in the audience. Firefall, one of Jim’s favorite groups, was in the house and loving his music. Because of contacts made through them, Jim got a nice break and was given the opportunity to open a concert for Sha Na Na at the beautiful Gusman Hall. Jim’s performance that night made a lasting impression, which would later lead to opening concerts for The Little River Band, The Steve Miller Band and Jimmy Buffett.

With these strong successes under his belt, Jim decided it was time to reach higher and he began touring on the College Circuit endeavoring to make a lasting name for himself. From north to south, east to west and everywhere in between, Jim has traveled thousands of miles and played and performed at hundreds of colleges and universities all over the country, receiving high accolades along the way. Long before there was an American Idol, there was You Can Be a Star. Jim competed in Nashville, Tennessee, and came back week after week making it all the way to the finals. From that triumph, Jim took a leap of faith moved to Nashville, Tennessee where he performed regularly and recorded with some of best session players in the music industry. One night while playing at Mere Bulles on 2nd Ave, the bartender handed Jim a note from a famous customer that read, “Jim, just a note to say how wonderful it is to hear you sing ~ you are blessed and I find it so wonderful to hear people like you using your God given talent. May all your dreams come true." Wynonna Judd

Chris Sterr is a multifaceted guitar player and vocalist. With roots that run as far back as the delta and Chicago blues, to the Englishman whom reinvigorated it in the 1960's, to the experimental and improvisational sounds of Jeff Beck, Bill Frisell, John Scofield, to the uncompromising pop-rock sensibility of Ryan Adams and Beck, he embraces and performs a wide array of music.

Born in Detroit, he embraced the sounds of The Funk Brothers-era Motown, and grew up with parents with exquisite taste. The Beatles, The Moody Blues, Cream, Pink Floyd and Moby Grape (just to name a few) were a huge part of shaping an early musical palette, as well as creating a musical and sonic frame of reference that would shape his taste and vision for years to come.

Having toured regionally as well as nationally for ten years with his Detroit-based band, Bump, Chris now resides in Traverse City, Michigan since 2010. When not performing on his own, he performs with many other performers and artists such as his trio, as well as Chicago-based, Stolen Silver. His latest project is The Pocket, a Traverse City-based 4-piece inflecting a fusion of Jazz fusion, rock, blues, and soul. The Pocket holds a residency at Kilkenny's Irish Public House every Wednesday.

Sterr's solo show includes both guitar and synth sounds, and accompanies himself with live loops both for atmosphere and backing tracks.

Delilah DeWylde

Delilah DeWylde

Jun 28, 7:00pm

Lake Ann Brewing Co.6535 First StLake Ann, MI49650 Map

A long time ago, at the dawn of the Atomic Age, a succession of no-good punks and ill-mannered teenagers took the best of American roots music — hard-partying honky tonk country, searing gutbucket blues and lonesome hillbilly twang — and distilled it into a potent moonshine known as rockabilly. This combustible formula, passed down through the generations, forms the heart of the revved-up stylings of Delilah DeWylde.
Delilah DeWylde got her start in 2004. Just like rockabilly originators Johnny Cash, Bill Haley and Carl Perkins, this Michigander cut her teeth on steel-guitar driven country in the style popularized by Hank Williams, Ernest Tubb and Webb Pierce. But the draw of the big beat was irresistible, and over time the band's approach has become sharper and tighter. Not self-consciously retro, Delilah remains committed to hand-crafted American music that stands at the crossroads of creativity and craftsmanship, liberally drawing from honky tonk country, rockabilly and surf music
Bandleader Delilah DeWylde (upright bass/lead vocals) is veteran of the West Michigan music scene and an alumna of rockabilly institution DangerVille. Her out-sized stage presence is the centerpiece of the show — one minute singing sweetly, the next slapping her bass into submission.
Next to the sound and fury of Miss Delilah stands cool character Lee Harvey on electric guitar. His serious demeanor on-stage reveals his reverence for the precision and technique of the "original" guitar gods— the likes of Paul Burlison, Billy Byrd, Cliff Gallup, Grady Martin, Dick Dale, Luther Perkins,
Scotty Moore and Don Rich.
Taking their task seriously, this trio plies its trade the old-fashioned way
- live and in person, logging more than 120 gigs a year throughout the Midwest and beyond. The band also has recorded three LPs (as they used to call 'em): 2008's Honky Tonk Heart, 2010's The Price You Pay and Win My Love - recorded in 2012.

Disgusting, spoiled and otherwise rotten berry preserves? An hour-long version of "In A Gadda Da Vida" performed by a bunch of tone-deaf teenagers in a missile silo? Perhaps a combination of the two?
No, BadJam is the sum of its collective parts, literally. An acronym for its members, Bad Jam (Ben, Andrew, Dan, Otto (Jenson) and Amber) is a quintet featuring multi-layered vocals, dueling guitars and a driving rhythm section.
Playing everything from tried and true classic rock staples to contemporary pop hits and a host of varied popular styles in between, there's little they won't try.
With an ever increasing, wildly varied repertoire and often-irreverent approach to the material, BadJam has something for everyone.

Doug Zernow (guitar, vocals, occasional ukulele) picked up the guitar the day after he saw The Beatles on The Ed Sullivan Show. Zack Light (electric bass) is well-known in northern Michigan as one of the finest bassists in northern Michigan. He's played everything from metal to folk, and it shows.

When it comes to movers and shakers in the bluegrass world, Full Cord is a super-

After winning the prestigious 2022 Telluride Bluegrass Band Competition in
Colorado, the Michigan-based group followed that with another much-coveted
honor when the International Bluegrass Music Association named Full Cord its
“Momentum Award Band of the Year.”
While mandolinist Brian Oberlin notes the band’s music “is new and fresh to the
ears of seasoned bluegrass fans,” the bluegrass traditions in Full Cord have deep
roots.
The band’s debut album on Nashville’s Dark Shadow Recording, Cambium
dropped in 2023 and is still hitting the bluegrass charts.
Full Cord’s songwriting has reached a new “tipping point,” Manager Katie Kirchner suggests, enhanced by the group’s vast repertoire and robust experience in numerous band projects over the years.
And Oberlin insists the band is “just hitting its stride” – ready to follow in the
footsteps of fellow Michigan bluegrass icons Billy Strings and Greensky Bluegrass
as yet another star in the making.

After years of being a supporting player, in 2021 John made his first tentative steps as a solo performer, playing out under his own name and beginning work on what would become his first solo EP and full-length album.

Country, folk and Appalachian roots music.

www.almarussofficial.com

When she’s not on the road, she lives in Whittier, North Carolina. Songwriting is cheaper than therapy, and old songs make her happy.

Music has taken her lots of places, from the hometown bars, to church, to the highway. She spent a while performing as an entertainer on the passenger train in Bryson City, NC, and once she wound up getting 3 yeses from ABC's American Idol Judges on Season 1 and being sent to Hollywood, CA. Music continues to give her stories to tell.
As a kid she'd spend summers in the Great Grandma's mountain house in Western NC. Her English teacher Mama took her to historical book readings and heritage events, and she fell in love with mountain culture and heritage - especially the music. She was the kid frolicking arounud the yard singing Scotch-Irish murder ballads, passed down through generations; songs about old-true loves and murders.
alma5.jpeg
She started taking fiddle lessons around age 12, practicing old-time tunes outside because of the dying-cat noises, and then she went on to learn clawhammer banjo and guitar. She learned about songwriters like John Prine and Townes Van Zandt, and she fell in love with the art of songwriting. She's played in lots of bands, but she's mostly a solo act these days. She spends a lot of time on the road playing in bars, listening rooms, restaurants, cafes, and the occasional street corner.

Her musical influences include country gold, bluegrass, folk, old-time, and americana. She attributes inspiration to artists such as Allison Krauss, Gillian Welch, Bobbie Gentry, Dolly Parton, Emmylou Harris, Lucinda Williams, and so many more. She’s thankful to be doing what she loves!

The Whiskey Charmers is a Detroit-based band led by Carrie Shepard and Lawrence Daversa. Fans have often compared their sound to riding through the desert with the top down, or the feeling of being in some lonesome smoky bar off the side of an abandoned highway, or music from a Spaghetti Western. William P Davis (Former Deputy Director of the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum in Nashville) says of the band, “I’ve heard a lot of good musicians. The Whiskey Charmers remind me of no one – and, to me, that is one of the best compliments an act can receive.”

Their most recent album “Lost on the Range” recently received a Detroit Music Award for Outstanding Americana Recording and includes a diverse mix of songs that take you on a 36 minute journey through the wild west, out into the far reaches of the galaxy, into a bedroom filled with monsters, and down the interstate to a budget motel. With their own brand of dusty Americana, the songs are intimate, sometimes dark and sometimes funny enough to make you laugh out loud.

The Whiskey Charmers two other albums include a self titled album (2015) and “The Valley” (2017) which received a Detroit Music Award for Best Country Recording. Many fans have become familiar with The Whiskey Charmers music through the video game Detroit: Become Human, a cinematic neo-noir thriller game that has sold more then five million copies worldwide.

Rachael Davis

Rachael Davis

Aug 22, 6:30pm

(Honor Cover Appreciated)
Songwriter, banjo-piano-uke-guitar player, nurturer, seamstress, wearer of aprons, bearer of band-aids, maker of levity, staunch adversary of bullshit...

Multi-instrumentalist Rachael Davis is as renown for her expressive–and explosive–voice as she is for uniting the often desperate worlds of folk, blues, country, and pop.

Davis grew up not only in a family of musicians, but in an extended village of remarkable musicians and songwriters who nurtured and mentored her from the time she was born. Beginning by jingling ankle bells in perfect time on her months old feet in the middle of old timey jams and song circles, to contributing newly minted songs to Music Sundays, Rachael has always found her own unique part in the music. Her clear tone and uncanny memory for just about every song she’s ever heard came early, and has served her well throughout her career. As a child Davis took to harmony, piano, and ukulele, and at 8, joined the family band Lake Effect, performing regularly at folk festivals throughout her home state of Michigan and around the U.S. By age 12, and continuing each year since, Rachael has brought the Wheatland Music Festival to its knees closing the Sunday morning gospel set with her stunning solo acapella version of Amazing Grace.

“I was learning everything I could get my hands on and when I was 17, my father gave me his Bart Reiter banjo and taught me to play clawhammer style,” recalled Davis. “I like to joke that cursed me for life.”

At 20, already a professional and deeply moved by traditional mountain music, blues, and ballads, Davis composed and recorded her debut album “Minor League Deities,” then with that, and a heart full of promise Rachael Davis headed to Boston the day after the 911 attack. There she began performing in city subways and the streets of Cambridge. Within months she had made her mark on the Boston music scene winning the prestigious Boston Music Award for Best New Singer/Songwriter.

Davis often found sanctuary in the city’s basement level record stores as well as Boston’s premier acoustic music clubs where she made fans and friends of local stage veterans Vance Gilbert, Cheryl Wheeler, Josh Ritter, and indie rock’s parade float princess, Mary Lou Lord.

“In a way, they’re all still with me today,” says Davis, “I was part of a real music community there. My story was just like theirs. We all knew we were on a path to find something and for that moment, we were all in the same place.”

Because Davis has been swayed by so many different types of music, her style is difficult to file and will not languorously rest amid broader musical genres. “My slant on acoustic music can be explained by a mixed cassette tape that my father played during my early childhood while driving in our family’s Chevy Cavalier station wagon we nicknamed Iggy. On one side of the cassette was the soundtrack for the film The Big Chill. On the other was John Hartford’s “Areoplane”.” Today Davis describes her music as ‘Motown-Banjo’.

Davis has lent her voice to countless recordings for friends, film soundtracks, and even video games, but it is her intuitive and empathetic understanding of folk music—“the music of folks” as she calls it, and her original and thoughtful songwriting voice that has earned her fans around the U.S.

Recently she has collaborated in the critically acclaimed supergroup: The Sweetwater Warblers.

Comprised of Rachael Davis, Lindsay Lou, and May Erliwine, all three premiere Michigan-grown songbirds.

Rachael Davis now lives in Nashville, Tennessee with her husband, critically acclaimed bassist Dominic John Davis with whom she performs as The Davis Duo. They have two children.

Levi Britton is an indie/folk/rock artist who hails from Traverse City, Michigan. Growing up around music sparked his drive to make it his profession. At age 20 Levi moved to Chicago, playing down in the subways, Potbelly restaurants, and any gig he could find. Eventually Britton co-founded his band, Down the Line, that went on to release five albums and toured the country for ten years with artists such as The Gin Blossoms, Pat Benatar, Peter Frampton, America, Lighthouse, and others.

In 2011, Levi and DTL band mate Dan Myers formed Stolen Silver, releasing two albums—most recently in June 2014. Stolen Silver has been touring with actor Gary Sinise and The Lieutenant Dan Band, playing stadiums and military bases in support of U.S. troops and their families.

In addition to playing with Stolen Silver, Levi launched a solo career at a whole new level in 2014. After years of fans clamoring for a solo project, Levi hit the studio to record all new, original music. His first solo record, Inside, is a blend of folk, indie-rock and soul with intricate, tasty vocals and masterful instrumentation.

Delilah DeWylde

Delilah DeWylde

Sep 14, 6:30pm
